Heritage
Ashley Godfrey Associates undertakes heritage related assignments, often working in partnership with our specialist heritage associate, CAMplan, and its director Mark Strawbridge.
Our work has included these projects:
South Northamptonshire Council - Bury Mount, Towcester.
Ashley Godfrey Associates worked on an Audience Development Plan, feasibility study and options appraisal for the future of Bury Mount in Towcester. Bury Mount is an 11th-century castle motte, at the centre of the Roman town of Towcester. Although it is a scheduled ancient monument, it has suffered badly from erosion over the years, and at the time we started work was badly neglected and overgrown, with no acknowledgment or interpretation of its historic significance. We consulted local people and interested parties on options for the future of the site, and from this work recommended that it become a local recreational space. Our proposals have now been realised, and the restoration of Bury Mount, which is an important part of the Towcester town centre regeneration project, was opened by the Duke of Gloucester in April 2010.
South Northamptonshire Council - Towcester Mill Conservation Management Plan.
We also worked with the local authority on a conservation management plan for Towcester Mill, a derelict historic property in Towcester with several possible options for its future.
Cambridge City Council – Jesus Green
Working in partnership with our specialist consultation associate, Phil Back, we were heavily involved with the development of an Audience Development Plan for this historic city centre open space, which ultimately formed the core of a Heritage Lottery Fund bid.
