Performance Management

We can help you to develop a performance information framework that will represent the overall performance of your organisation in delivering the objectives of a given service. We have experience in developing a suite of indicators that together create a performance information system that will tell you how well you are performing, and highlight areas where improvement can be secured. We bring together our knowledge of the specific service area, and our expertise in data collection and statistics, and data presentation, to generate a framework that is sensitive to the key performance measures of the service (as perceived internally, but also by your regulators and customers), robust and responsive to performance changes, and accessible to those reporting on and managing performance. It will be fully documented, in case key personnel move on, and will balance the costs of data collection and manipulation against the value of the information generated!

Our projects have included:

Play England/Department of Culture, Media and Sport - Development of performance indicators for children’s play provision

This major project, commissioned by Play England and DCMS, aimed to produce a set of performance indicators that would give a clear and comprehensive picture of the effectiveness of local play provision. We developed some indicators based on identified critical measures of success, and then piloted these in different authorities and user groups (including children and young people) to explore their portability and reliability as a basis for measurement and comparison, using the experience to refine our indicator definitions and guidance. Four indicators were agreed with the project sponsors and guidance on these has since been published and disseminated.

Cambridge City Council - Development of Performance Management Framework for Cambridge Streetscene.

We worked with the authority, using data from within the service, from consultation, and from external benchmarking, to produce a performance management framework focused on key areas of public concern, to enable contract managers to monitor and improve performance from their internal delivery partners.

Haringey Council – Sports participation indicators

Assessment of key indicators driving sports participation, using Active People data, and a stakeholder workshop to discuss options for driving a step change improvement in participation, including the key decision of whether to develop further using the authority’s strengths in participation, or deploy resource to tackle its weaknesses – a recurring dilemma in change management.
